Coach K, the Secretary General of The Society ofLogisticians, Malaysia (LogM), believes that in this era of crisis and opportunity, mastering the business aspects represented by 5 Chinese Character is  important, namely cash, mindset, leadership, creativity and system.

He said that cash management is extremely important in this extraordinary period to ensure the survival of the company. The company must ensure there are at least 6 months of cash reserves and cash management, including managing resources and reducing unnecessary costs.

"Employers must change their mindsets in several areas, including how to deal with customers, employees, suppliers, and even partners, and deal with this severe and extraordinary period with a new normal mindset."

He continued that leadership during this period also has to change. The team structure of the entire company must change in a timely manner. Leaders need to understand the situation of work-from-home, including the related needs and evolution. Only if the team is united from top to bottom that the company can recover from the crisis.

He explained that such challenging period forces creativity out of us for survival and development. Leaders need to find new mindset, new selling point and new operating approaches to breakthrough. Simply maintaining the same way of doing things is not beneficial.

"Since the MCO and the pandemic brought on disruptive impact to industries, the usual way of business operations and system require reformulation to cope with this unprecedented challenging environment.”

He emphasized that this pandemic undeniably brought a heavy blow to all walks of life, but also brought upon to people to be mindful of how to survive and also accelerate the development of digital economy.

"An old Chinese proverb says, ‘When it seems that it is the end of the road, there may be another village lying ahead.’  Crisis offers opportunity, especially when we continue to think and innovate.”

He said that the priority now is to survive and then to evolve. Looking into the details of cash, mindset, leadership, creativity and system will make a difference.
